What are the positive effects of severe problems?

Trouble and disturbance plays a significant role in building of significant people and the friends of Allah (SWT). Although most of the people get distracted in these circumstances and destroy their identity in it but the true man neither gets into the trouble but also becomes a better man.

Hazrat Ameeral momeneen Ali (AS) says : (ستکون فتنة یُحصّل الناس کما یُحصّل الذهب فی المعدن.(1))

Soon a turbulence will occur and it will purify the people, as the gold gets purified in the in the mine.

It takes thousand years for the minerals to be converted into pure gold however sometimes turbulence are so effective that in a short period of time purifies a man. Similarly as it destroys and ruins a man in a short span.

Actually these great turbulences replaces their short comings and substitutes their bad qualities with the good one. Therefore, they do not get carried away with these turbulences and does not agree with it. But they fight with the circumstances and it not only builds them but also act as a catalyst in it.

If it takes thousand years for the mineral to become a gold (2) but a little converts the mineral into a gold.

Likewise those who want to control themselves and purify themselves it takes a long time and sometimes these turbulences and disturbances purify them in a short span.
