Having faith in Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.)

Abu Mohammad Basari quotes from Abul Abbas, who is the uncle of the writer Ibrahim bin Mohammad’s son that, “We were having a conversation about Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.), when Abul Abbas turned towards me and said, O Abu Mohammad! I did not had any faith in Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.) and I, with my brother and the likes of him, who had faith that Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.) is the true leader, used to take them lightly and criticised them. I would even abuse them as well, so that one day I shall be amongst those who by the order of Mutawakkil will bring Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.) in front of him.

We travelled towards the city of Medina and reached there, according to the given order we started our return journey, we quickly crossed some places and reached to place, it was a hot day in the summers, and we asked Imam to come inside that residence.

He replied, “No”.

We crossed that place, until now we neither had eaten anything nor had drunk anything, the heat increased; thirst and starvation dominated us. In this condition, we reached a salt desert, nothing could be seen neither the water was there nor a shade to rest, all of us were staring at the Imam.

Imam looked at us and said, “What happened? You all deemed to be starving and thirsty”.

We replied, “Yes, we swear to God! O our master! It true we got tired”.

He said, “Come down, eat and drink something”.

I was shocked with these words of Imam since we were standing in a salted desert, which did not had any water or vegetation neither was there a shade of a tree to rest nor was there a spring of water from it.

We waited for sometimes then Imam said, “What happened to you? Come down.”

I rapidly looked after the fleet so that they can appease the animals, suddenly I noticed, there were two large trees under the shade of which many fleet can rest. I could not believe my eyes as I knew that place is a salty desert, and then it came to my notice that there is spring of water of cold water.

We got down from our animals and surrounded that place, we ate some food drunk some water and took some rest.

Although, there were people amongst us who have crossed this place many a times in the past, but at that time, I was preoccupied with that sensation, I stared at the Imam and thought about him for sometimes, when I came back to my senses I saw that Imam smiled and turned his blessed face away from me.

I said to myself, “I swear to God! I will inquire about him that what kind of person is he”.

We were about to leave that place, I went behind the tree and hid my sword under the sands and kept two stones over it as a mark, and then I did the ablution for the prayers.

Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.) looked at us and said, “Did you all took the rest” we replied, “Yes”.

He said, “By the name of Allah, we should start our journey now!”

We packed our things and started the journey; we travelled for about an hour. I returned from there and found the mark, which I have marked. However, there was no sign of the trees and the spring, as if the Almighty Allah has not created anything at that place, there was no water, shade or even a drop moisture!

I was surprised by this incidence, and raised my hands and asked Allah to make me steady and consistent in loving, having faith and recognising the Imam. Then I started my journey in pursuit of the fleet and quickly reached them.

When I reached Imam Hadi (p.b.u.h.), he looked at me and said, “O Abul Abbas! Have you scrutinised it?”

I replied, “Yes my master! It is true that I had doubts in this matter; however, I became free from needs of this world and hereafter because of you”

Imam said,هو كذلك ، هم معدودون (3) معلومون لا يزيد رجل ولا ينقص.

Yes it is most likely, our Shia’s are known and counted, neither anyone of them will be deducted nor anyone will be added to it.” (4)
