Examples of Abu Bakr’s activities

other than the usurpation of Khilafat.

Abu Bakr did some heinous acts due to which even his admirer will be ashamed of it when they hear about it; a miniature list of it is as follows:

  • He commanded the assassination of Abbas (Uncle of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.)) and Ali (p.b.u.h.) (Son in law of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.)) merely because they have not paid their allegiance to him.
  • Took away the property of Fadak from the daughter of the holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) without any justification.
  • Gave freedom to Khalid bin Waleed to kill the Muslims, which is against directions of the Quran.
  • He ignored the words of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and prevailed

«الصلوة خيراً من النوم» in place of «حىّ على خير العمل» in the Azaan.

  • He multiplied the pension of his daughter Aisha and the daughter of Umar Hafsah but reduced the pension of the Prophet’s daughter Zahra Batool (p.b.u.h.).
  • He designated Umar as a Khalifah after himself, which was against the laws of Islam.
  • Without any logical reason and legitimacy from Islamic laws, he openly opposed the commands of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). He made a will that people shall enter the house of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) without the permission of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) (21), and dug his grave in the house of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) next to his grave (22) and after he is dead, they should bury his dead body there.

It is astonishing to know that this apparently a simple though cunning person had done acts that are more heinous than the previous ones, which is far beyond accountancy and some of which that could be enlisted, are as follows:

  • He fled away from the battlefield of Ohad and Hunain and left the holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.), who was surrounded by the enemies.
  • He left the flag that the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) gave to him, on the battlefield of Khaibar, in the midst and ran away.
  • He ignored the words of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and did not joined the army of Usamah bin Zaid, which forced the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) to curse him and his companions. Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.) said about him and his companions that, «جهّز جيش اسامة، لعن اللَّه من تخلّف عنه... »”.
  • In spite of his own words that the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) had not designated anyone as a Khalifah, he himself chose to be the Khalifah without any prudence.
  • He left the corpse of the holy Prophet (p.b.u.h.), which did not had the ghusl (obligatory bath) yet, and ran towards the Saqeefah of bani Sa’adah to choose the Khalifah.

Alas! That the people of our era especially the youngsters do not know about him and the member of his family. They do not know what his family members have done after he died and what kind of horrible bloodshed they have caused. We will just mention few of them over here:

Abu Bakr had two daughters first was named Aisha, who was the wife of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.), and the other was named Asmaa’ and her nickname was Zu Al-Nataqain, who used to live in the house of Zubair as his wife.

No Muslim is there who do not know about the misdeeds of the Aisha and that she was the one, who started the battle of Jamal, who started the mutiny in Basra. Firstly, she falsely accused Ali (p.b.u.h.) for the assassination of Usmaan then placed the blood-smeared cloth of Usmaan in the hands of Mua’wiyah as an authentication of his deeds, targeted the corpse of Hasan (p.b.u.h.) with arrows about which will discuss in a separate discourse.

The other daughter of Abu Bakr i.e. Asmaa’, who was the wife of Zubair and the mother of Abdullah and Mus’ab, the sons of Zubair. She followed the path of her sister Aisha and left even a deeper footprint on the history of Islam, which were unfortunate, and heart breaking and some of it can be enlisted as following:

Her husband and son were among the leader of the battle of Jamal, who have drawn their swords against Ali (p.b.u.h.).

The house of Mus’ab, the other son of Asmaa’ became a safe house for the assassinator of Husain (p.b.u.h) and his companion who were martyred in Karbala. He gave refuge to Shabs bin Rabi’ee and Qais bin Ashas, while on the other hand he killed Mukhtar Saqafi, who took the revenge for the blood of Imam Husain (p.b.u.h.).

When Abdullah, the son of Asmaa’, saw a glimpse of Imam Husain’s (p.b.u.h.) grandeur, he understood that his position in Mecca is in danger so he forced Imam Husain (p.b.u.h.) to leave his home and migrate towards Kufa and eventually Imam Husain (p.b.u.h.) got martyred on the path of righteousness, faith and monotheism. He was the one, who, when got the hands on the leadership of Mecca and Madina, imprisoned Mohammad Hanafiah, the son of Ali (p.b.u.h.), and intended to kill him.

These were some of the footprints, which were casted by the daughters of Abu Bakr on the history and the society of Islam. However, Abu Bakr had a sister as well, who had left a tragic impression worse than before on the history of Islam.

Umme Farwa was the name of Abu Bakr’s sister and she was the wife of Ashas bin Qais.

She gave birth to children of whom each one of them had smeared their hands with the blood of Ali’s (p.b.u.h.) family. Jo’deh the wife of Imam Hasan (p.b.u.h.) is the one who poisoned him; she was the daughter of Umme Farwa and niece of Abu Bakr. We will suffice here with this amount of discussion about Umme Farwa, her husband and her children and will later discuss about them in a separate discourse.

At this instance, arises a question, whether the Khilafat of Abu Bakr was according to the Quran, commands of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) and consent of Allah? In addition, whatever happened to the Muslim nation due his family i.e. his sister and daughters, was it according to the Islamic laws? Was it by the consent of Allah, and in accordance with the directions of the Quran and the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) or not? Alternatively, was it due to his love and affection towards position, status and rank? (23)

(21) In the Quran, it is clearly mentioned that no one is allowed to enter into Prophet (p.b.u.h.) house without his permission, by the command of this verse of the holy Quran: «يا أيّها الّذين آمنوا لاتدخلوا بيوت النّبي إلاّأن يؤذن لكم...».

(22) By the command of this verse of the holy Quran: «يا أيّها الّذين آمنوا لاترفعوا اصواتكم فوق صوت النبيّ...».
